The Global Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies (GIIS) is an educational institute based in Kathmandu, Nepal. GIIS promotes and conducts interdisciplinary research to generate credible, salient and legitimate knowledge that catalyzes a transformative change in the developmental policies and practices in Nepal and elsewhere. Through deep engagement with decision-makers and multiple stakeholders, GIIS aims to shape developmental agenda that is socially just, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable. This program generates knowledge through analyzing the impacts of climate change on biodiversity, agriculture, water, human health, economy, and society via qualitative & quantitative methods.

This program aims to conduct research, development, education, and public discourse on emerging technologies such as data science, machine learning, cryptocurrency, cybersecurity, augmented reality, and AI to generate knowledge, innovate, support, and catalyze sustainable development.

Global Health & Nutrition program supports improving the health and lives of people, with an aim to meet goal three of the sustainable development goals (SDG3).

Gender & Equality program aims to generate knowledge to empower women and marginalized groups. We value gender equality, women empowerment, social inclusion and diversity.

Our 17 research fellows have published more than 400 research publications primarily in high impact journals receiving 6000+ citations over the last ten years.
